When you are in the publication business, you should be aware that when you say quarterly, you should put out the issue quarterly. Unfortunately, there is such a thing as commitment. Moreover, abiding by the principles of journalism, it is not only the substance and form but the timeliness that make a copy worth our time reading. Your choice of subjects and substance, if ever yours has one, could certinly stand a little more improvement and professionalism. Perhaps your Editorial Board should allot some more time in planning and editing your newsletter and do away with a lot of garbage. Here’s my $10 for my subscription fee. No hard feelings.

Al Moranas
Los Angeles, CA

(Please know that the Ang Tanjayanon Newsletter is free. It is a labor of love for members and their friends who appreciate reading this carefree style of writing - be it in the guise of news, jokes, witticisms, anecdotes, whatever - about our town and its unique people who affectionately laugh at themselves. When members write it is doubly fun as Tanjayanons, wherever they are, always love to see a familiar name while having a good laugh.     The $10 a year per family assessment is not subscription, repeat, not subscription, but is a membership fee for the Tanjay Association, USA. The Newsletter is just trying to help the Association collect its members’ fees. In your case, Al Moranas, inspite of the pain you cause us, (ayaw mo’g katawa!), we are therefore returning your "subscription fee". Expect your check in the mail. It’s OK. We shall send you fee". Expect your check in the mail. It’s OK. We shall send you every issue of the newsletter. We hope you’re happy, kang nyawa-a ka!) (‘King, na-a gyuy mga tawong makalagot, sa?)

Promise baya, ha!

(I met Nilo Tam during the Balik-Tanjay and had some time talking with him. In that brief encounter, he struck me as somebody who is sincerely concerned with the welfare of the Tanjayanons. He is a young successful businessman with international connections but, he says, Tanjay will always be his home. Talking about corrupt politicians whose promises don’t mean anything, the above anecdote was recounted.)

Diha’y ning-candidato ug barangay captain nga nangampanya sa barrio. Gapa-inum ug tuba.
"Ngano man, Sir?"

LETTER OF APOLOGY

Dear Tia Tutang,

We sincerely extend our apologies for having missed out on the party you and fellow teachers had prepared for the Balik-Tanjayanons on July 22. Except for a few such as Perla, most of us were not aware of that schedule, as it was not communicated to us.
Pasaylo-a tawon mi. The loss was ours too, as we missed a beautiful occasion that would have brought back memories of our childhood, especially with you and Tia Iniong.

Badingding Señeris-Gil, Tanjay Association, USA
