KUAN DIAY, pag-larga namo, ning-hunong
ag ulan, and the day after, tag-init na pud! Tingali this was Señor
Santiago’s challenge to us: enjoy your hometown, rain or shine!!!
Ag among Program of Activities that we had so carefully planned wala kaayo
ma-sunod kay medyo nag-tibula-ag (to quote Badingding) ‘ming tanan. (Maayo
gani kay na-remedyohan gyud ni Braddock!) After all, most of us had not
been back to enjoy the Fiesta - much less, seen our families, relatives,
and friends - for years (30-plus years for many!), so it was more like
"to each his own." But om having the time of our lives? Of course
not! On the contrary, na-enhanced ang kalami (ug nag-expand ang among mga
waistlines) - which goes to prove that a return visit to our beloved Tanjay
is still one of life’s most rewarding experiences, with or without a program
schedule!

From Florida.......
My Fellow Tanjayanons:
Ed and I would like to thank all of you for your
kindness and care in our time of loss. Our trip to the Philippines was
both a happy and sad one for us. We were happy to join the Balik-Tanjay
group - meeting old and new friends - such a lively group - and of course,
seeing our family again.
It was sad to see Mama Iyay very sick and suffering
but we are were glad we could be with her and Papa during her last few
days.
Anyway, thanks again - the flowers were beautiful.
Regards and take care,
Ed & Gorie MercadoAd libs:

Kahibalo ba mo nga today’s "Sinulog de
Tanjay" is not even a shadow of the Sinulog that most of us know
and remember? Tiono-ud, bitaw! The modern version is now more like the
"Mardi Gras", bisa’g na-a pa si Senyor Santiago ug kabayong
puti. Today’s sinulog is less ritualistic, and more of show-biz - but then
that is what grabs tourists, di ba? There were about 50 "teams"
competing for cash prizes, ranging from pre-schoolers (whose Mamas
and Papas gasunod-sunod with payongs and balons) to the veterans
- all of them in costumes. It was a "sea of colors and hues".
In the Endurance Contest (total prize P80,000) the eventual winners
were those who could "aguants the penitence" of the elements
while they danced and gyrated to the beat of the drums hangtud sayong buntag
the next day. (Daghan gyud tong kamot ug ti-il nga guiluthan!)

Overheard:
"Ma-o diayng diutay na la’g gwapa diri
sa Tanjay, kay kamong tanan nangadto man di-ay sa America", George
Romero upon seeing our balik-Tanjayanon ladies.
"Nganong gui-ulan ang atong pyesta? Kay
guibalhin na man ang prosesyon. Imbis sa pitsa 25 unta kay mao gyuy Iyang
pyesta, gui-himo na man hinoong pitsa 20. Nasuko si Sr. Santiago!"
from an old man nga nagsampiray sa kahubog sa mudto sa pyesta.

FIRST PRlZE WINNER
Here is my entry to your Jail Birds Story Contest:
1. For the one standing: Guipato-on siya
ug ballroom dancing ni Mrs. After 3 weeks of lessons, nakabayad ang asawa
ug $250 sa dancing instructor. Unya sa didto na sila sa dinner dance, dili
guihapon siya kama-o, siging kalimot sa steps, unya kontra-kompas pa gyud.
Sa kalagot, guipa-priso siya sa iyang asawa.
2. Sa galingkod: Pareho apan lain. Guipato-on
sa asawa ug ballroom dancing. Daku’g bayad. Unya sa didto na sa dance,
sige rang tu-a sa guwa, ga-inum-inum uban sa iyang mga amigo. Ang iyang
asawa intawon baling hinulat. Gui-langaw na la’g pina-abut. Sa kalagot,
guipa-priso siya sa iyang asawa.
By the way, I have just read your Jul-Oct issue
of the ATN (my first time), and even if I am not from Tanjay, I enjoyed
it very much. I think it is super. You Tanjayanons are indeed a class of
your own. Can you send me some back issues, please? Just bill me.
