secretary nga si Marlene wrote down the minutes of their meeting on a paper napkin! Ga-tukmuranay pa dayong tago-tago, unya may ning-syagit, "Uy, di ko layhang mo-president! PRO na lang ko, unya ikaw na la’y Vice-President, okay?" What did we tell you? Di ba sophisticated kaayo ang among election procedure? Dili na kinahanglan ug Charter Change (cha-cha!).

Flash!!!
(Special to Ang Tanjayanon Newsletter)

Three Tanjay Association USA members were recently elevated to the highest positions of their respective favorite organizations: Edgar J. Arrieta was installed as President of the Silliman University AlumniAssociation of  Southern California for the years 1997-1999 during the Association’s Dinner and Ball held on August 29, 1997. Edgar, currently considered the dean of the members of the Board of Directors of Tanjay Association, took over the presidency from Jovie Aclaro, himself a member of our Association we are proud of. Zenaida Duran-Bennett, another member of the Board of Directors of Tanjay Association, was elected President of the Negros Oriental Association, USA in a hotly contested election held last June at the Chino Hills Park. Zeny, a charming multi-awarded former Girl Scout executive, was finally proclaimed after Jumbo Ponce de Leon, a personable gentleman with a big following, conceded the elections. Induction will be on November 22. Carmenia (Babes) Y. Miraflor, another Tanjayanon, became the first Lady President of the Greater American Siquijor Association when she was unanimously elected to that position by its members. Babes, youngest daughter of one of Tanjay’s foremost educators, the late Nemesio V. Miraflor, is the CIS Programs and Administration Manager of Stanford University in Palo Alto. Tanjay Association is sending a delegation to express its affection and pride during her formal installation on Saturday November 1 in San Francisco.

Election of officers for 1997/1999

Happy Tanjayanons - and "contented", too - pose before the camera: Edna Tabaloc-Rivers, Zenaida Duran-Bennett, Nora Villaflores-Pilas, Sally Ligo, Ciony Zosa-Anderson, Marlene Zerna-Robertson, Mariane Allera-Fayssoux and Falang, showing the "escutinyo" results of the elections for the new set of Officers.
Lovely Tanjayanon smiles
Lovely Tanjayanon smiles brighten up an otherwise gloomy day: Mayor Arturo Regalado with Lualhati Zerna-Colgrove, Matahum Zerna-Tuazon, Marlene Zerna-Robertson, Antonia Señeris-Gayo, Badingding, and Fatima F. Calumpang. (Hiding behind the Zerna sisters is Fatima’s dad, who was held responsible for the rain.)
